Fort Jackson, a U.S. Army installation in Columbia, South Carolina, is the Army’s main Basic Combat Training center. Each year more than 50 percent of all individuals and 60 percent of the women entering the Army train here.
Fort Jackson's primary mission is providing the Army with trained, disciplined, motivated and physically fit Warriors who are dedicated to the defense of our Nation. Accomplishing this mission means training more than 50,000 Initial Entry Training and 10,000 Advanced Individual Training Soldiers every year.
This installation is named for Andrew Jackson, a United States Army General and seventh President of the United States of America (1829–1837) who was born in the border region of North and South Carolina.
Fort Jackson spans more than 52,000 acres, with more than 100 ranges and field training sites and 1,150 buildings, has been a critical part of the Midlands community for almost 100 years.
