FORT JACKSON, SC Aug. 7, 2015-- A diverse group of about 30 guests entered Fort Jackson on Thursday to get an inside look at what happens beyond the gates.
Fort Jackson is the largest entry training site in the country, and base officials offer guided tours to get a snapshot of what soldiers go through.
“Here is where we soldierize young men and women,” Col. Mark Shade said. “Two-thirds of our soldiers live in the Columbia neighborhoods. We are your neighbors and friends.”
Shade began the tour with a short history lesson of the base and explanation of the different training phases soldiers go through before they graduate from basic training.
